Why we built it

Most school software is written for schools somewhere else. It assumes two semesters instead of three terms, a currency that is not the cedi, and fees paid by card. Ghanaian schools end up working around the software instead of the other way about.

Lytical SMS is built around how schools here actually run: three terms, continuous assessment, fees paid in cash and mobile money, and results parents expect to see on a printed report card.

Schools here run three terms, mark continuously and take fees in cash and mobile money. Every system we tried assumed otherwise, so the school ended up working around the software. We built this the other way round.

What we hold to

Enforced in the software, not promised in a document.

A school’s money is its own

CodeLytical Hub staff can help with classes, students and results — but fees, invoices and payments are refused to us in the software itself. Not a policy we could quietly change.

Records are never destroyed

Schools must hold student records for years. Nothing we do — pausing an unpaid account, closing a dormant one — deletes them. A school that comes back finds everything as it was.

A person sets you up

No signup form. Your terms, classes and staff are entered with you on a call, because a school year typed wrongly at the start is felt for the whole year.
